AxiDraw: A Personal Writing and Drawing Machine
As an industry, printing has experienced several quantum leaps in recent years. While 3D printing has remained at the forefront of technological advancement, it doesn't mean that there isn't room for innovation in the 2D space. Enter Axidraw - a computer controlled plotter that can be supplied with any writing instrument to create graphics, typography and illustrations. Far beyond your typical home inkjet printer, this device allows you to use your favorite pens and markers on any surface and in any style, whether it's calligraphy, stippling, crosshatching or just crisp shapes rendered with precision.
As a free standing unit, AxiDraw allows you to produce art at any size essentially breaking out of the mould of letter-sized printers. The more subtle benefit here is that the finished result has decidedly authentic feel to it, as if you hired a skilled artisan rather than hit the OK button on the print dialog box. As an added incentive the machine runs very quietly, making inkjets seem loud and clunky by comparison. Check out the following video for a demonstration, or visit the homepage.
