Oscar Oiwa Makes a Big Splash for Custom Interiors at the 2016 Setouchi Triennale
The focal point of this fantastic mural is a rural abode, nestled in the hills of the Setouchi countryside. People enter the dome through the doorway, creating an almost portal-like experience from 3D space to a 2D hyperspace. The interior is saturated in a detailed landscape of oil-based ink, pain-stakingly rendered with his trusty McKie Bold marker. No detail was spared here - from individual blades of grass to sweeping clouds and abstract/organic patterns, the sheer scale of this piece, both micro and macro, are inspiring to say the least.
Impressive as this project is, this was not Oscar's only contribution to the triannual art festival. Here he is presenting "The Room Inside of the Room". Fans of MC Escher and the movie "Inception" will appreciate this mind-bending take on perspective as Oiwa demonstrates a playfulness that traverses media and dances on the edge of dimensional perception.
