The Miniature Realism of Dina Brodsky

Posted onDecember 12nd 2016The Miniature Realism of Dina Brodsky

NYC painter Dina Brodsky has a fine eye for detail and a deep affinity for nature in this stunning series of micro-paintings. The Belarus native is a self-styled realist/miniaturist, who applies her intricate skills to the tiniest of substrates. Whether it’s small, circular cuts of plexiglass or simply her palettes as a canvas, Dina brings a surprising amount of depth and expressive sensibility in each of these pieces. The use of lighting and color are so accurate, that many feel more like a portal into another world than a painting. Despite the obvious skill and passion involved, Dina faced her share of resistance in the art world, where bigger is often deemed better:

“I went to undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and that’s where I discovered miniature painting — and where I was most told to stop it. They wanted big installation art and I was doing tiny realistic oil paintings. It was the opposite of what they were looking for.”

This body of work is a testament to what one can achieve when they believe in themselves and create from the heart, rather than simply fold to public or even professional opinions.
