The Flexible Paper Sculptures of Felix Semper
August 18th, 2017
Artist Felix Semper pushes papercraft and sculpture to mind bending extremes with his unique brand of flexible paper sculptures. Thousands of pages are elaborately cut and layered to produce a flexible 3D bust. The entire process is a painstaking and methodical one, often taking several months to complete.
The end result appears to be a regular stone sculpture at first glance - an illusion, which is shattered when Felix begins to manipulate his work - stretching his portraits into seemingly impossible shapes as he reveals the hidden complexity of his pieces. He often demonstrates his work in public in front of awestruck crowds, unsure of what exactly they are witnessing. Capturing their wonder is a large part of Semper's work as he goes to great lengths to earn it. All images and video courtesy of Felix Semper.
